Changeover 2026-7

The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley held its 2026–27 Changeover Dinner at the Barossa Rams Rugby Club rooms, an excellent venue with ample parking and outstanding facilities.

The evening began with a message of thanks from Prue Maitland, followed by Wendy Randle proposing a toast to His Majesty King Charles III.

 

Outgoing President James officially opened the meeting before inviting PDG Robert Brookes to propose the toast to Rotary International. Robert highlighted Rotary's long-standing commitment to the End Polio campaign, a global initiative that has brought the world to the brink of eradicating polio, with only two countries still reporting cases. Robert and his wife, Peggy, spent time assisting with the vaccination of children in Papua New Guinea.

District Governor Tim Mee responded to the toast by encouraging Rotary clubs to continue building on the tremendous progress already achieved and to embrace the 2026–27 Rotary theme, Create Lasting Impact.

Barossa Mayor Bim Lange then proposed a toast to Rotary clubs and volunteers, recognising the invaluable contribution made by service clubs, sporting clubs, community groups and volunteers in enriching life throughout the Barossa.

President James presented his Annual Report, reflecting on a successful and rewarding year. Members enjoyed a 20-minute slideshow showcasing many of the club's activities and events. During the year, the club delivered numerous projects supporting the local community, students and welfare organisations throughout the Barossa Valley. Members also enjoyed visiting a variety of local businesses and venues, learning more about the region and strengthening community connections.

 

 

A "Lucky Chair" prize, generously donated by Ashton Hurn MP, was won by Wendy Randle.   

 

 

 

A special time of the evening was the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, one of Rotary International's highest honours, which acknowledges outstanding commitment to humanitarian and educational service. In one of his final duties as President, James presented the award to Tony Robinson of The Leader newspaper.

Tony is an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley and, over many years, has ensured that the activities of service clubs, sporting clubs and community organisations receive consistent and positive coverage in The Leader. Through his reporting, Tony has promoted, supported and recognised the many volunteers whose efforts make such a significant contribution to the Barossa community. The Paul Harris Fellow recognition was a thoroughly deserved honour.

The highlight of the evening was the induction of Steve Ahrens as President of the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley for 2026–27. This marks Steve's second term as President, reflecting his ongoing dedication to Rotary and his commitment to serving the community.

Steve introduced his Board for the coming year, which features a healthy blend of experienced members alongside several new faces, providing both continuity and fresh perspectives for the club.

Guests also enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Vintage Chef Co., with a choice of slow-cooked beef cheeks or chicken, served with baked potatoes and fresh salad.

The Changeover Dinner celebrated another successful year of service while looking forward to an exciting year ahead under Steve Ahrens' leadership, continuing Rotary's tradition of making a positive and lasting impact in the Barossa community.
