President Bill opened the meeting with a warm welcome to all Rotarians, Friends and Guests.
He thanked everyone who attended the evening of Fellowship last Thursday at the Angaston Machinery Shed – a terrific turnout of 38 for our first face-to-face for the year. A great meal was prepared and served by Bryce, Bronwyn, Mary Martin, Mark, David, Keith M, Phil Graetz, and Grant Schuyler. A special thanks was extended to Mark, Phil Martin and John Anderson for the guided tour and entertainment.
President Bill reminded everyone to pick up an End Polio raffle book - or two! - from Sandie. We need to sell all the tickets allocated to us – we only have half as many as last year so it shouldn’t be difficult. Please return your ticket butts and money to Sandie by the meeting of Thursday 31st March.
DG Jeff Neale advised that on Sunday 13th February 2022 candidates for the role of District 9510 Governor for 2024-2025 were interviewed. Marie-louise Lees from the Rotary Club of Gawler Light has been selected for the position. DG for 2022-2023 will be Paul Thomas AM from Northern Yorke Peninsula, followed by Craig Dowling from Loxton Club in 2023-2024, and Marie-louise will take over from Craig.
President Bill referred to the news in this week’s Leader that after 63 years of service, the Rotary Club of Kapunda will be giving back their charter. They are down to seven members. Their last meeting will be on Monday 16th May. President Bill and Secretary Sandie will be attending; if you wish to join them, please let Sandie or Bill know.
We need to line up some guest speakers for our first and third meetings of each month; if you have someone in mind, please contact President Bill for a choice of dates to discuss with your potential guest (Keith Adams usually looks after the program but is having some time away).
The meeting was reminded that our Club is hosting the Sir Condor Laucke Oration this year, and we have booked the Vine Inn for dinner on Thursday 12th May. Please put this date in your diary and we’ll share more information as it comes to hand. We need people to help with organising this event, nothing onerous, so please see President Bill or Sandie if you can lend a hand.
Now that we’re back with face-to-face meetings, President Bill encouraged everyone to start thinking about resurrecting the projects and fund-raising opportunities which have been on the backburner for such a long time. Let’s get motivated again and get out there and kick some great goals for Rotary!
We were reminded that our next meeting on Thursday 3rd March is at the Wanera again, then we’ll be meeting at the Tanunda Hotel on 17th March and 31st March. At the beginning of the meeting on 31st March, everyone will be given a voting slip to be collected at the end of the meeting for counting, together with votes received by people who can’t be there on the 31st. The results will be shared with all members and friends on Friday morning, 1st April.
The Four Way Test of the things we Think, Say or Do was beautifully recited by John Little and Marie Rothe, thank you!
President Bill thanked everyone for attending tonight’s meeting, wished them well until we meet again on the 3rd March.

Entrepreneurs Organisation
Meeting Feb.17 at Wanera
Honorary member Steve Ahrens was speaker at our meeting held on February 17th. He presented us with an interesting power point on the Entrepreneurs Organisation of which he has been a member for 15 years.
Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO) was founded in 1987 by Verne Harnish and 22 former members of the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs.
Members of EO must be the owner, founder or majority stakeholder of a business earning a minimum of US$1 million in revenue during the most recent fiscal year. Steve shares ownership of their family business with his brother and nephew.
EO has grown to a network of more than 14,000 like minded leaders in 198 chapters across 61 countries. Steve is a member of the Adelaide Chapter founded by Richard Turner in 1998. The Adelaide Chapter has 51 members, committed to learning and helping each other succeed in their respective businesses and personal lives. Chapters hold Forums once a month usually with 6-10 members taking part. No competing business can be in the same forum, and strict rules apply with a typical forum session covering around four hours. EO is also a means to gain access to the world’s top experts enabling an opportunity to grow beyond your personal limits.
All chapters are required to have at least one learning event each month. Members may also be involved with regional events and global events during any one year.
EO is very well structured and each Chapter is required to have a professional board sourced from its members.
Following a few questions, Secretary Sandie thanked Steve for his presentation and handed him the usual gift.

Sergeant John with his usual clever use of gags and jokes rolled this one off as the meeting at Wanera wound up.
A chap went down to his favourite spot by the river for some evening fishing when he discovered he only had one small prawn left for bait. Suddenly he looked down to see a snake swimming by with a frog in its mouth. Without hesitation he reached down and grabbed the snake by the neck, popped the frog in his bait box ,then realised he had to get rid of the reptile. So he reached back in his kit and pulled out a half bottle of Jack Daniels, poured a decent measure down the snake’s neck until it went glassy eyed, whereupon he tossed it in the stream.. A short while later he felt something tapping his foot and looking down there was the snake with two frogs in its mouth !!

Barossa Valley Machinery Preservation Society (BVMPS).
Vocational visit -February 10th 2022
The BVMPS was formed in 1976 by a group of like minded persons, spear headed by Kev Rohrlach, who were interested in the collection and preservation of historical farm and industry equipment.
Originally the BVMPS did not own any equipment or premises as it was a group of collectors. Over the years however the BVMPS was donated items and also purchased various items of significance to the local area. As a result a storage facility was needed as most items were stored a various members properties. The BVMPS secured storage at the old Laucke Mill’s grain store but this was far from ideal and it was during this time that a suitable site for our own facility was being investigated. Eventually we were able to negotiate a site at the disused Angaston Railway station.
Fund raising, a grant from Barossa Council, members contribution and a significant loan from the council saw the commencement in 2018 of the 900 sq mtr storage shed as it stands today at a total cost of $320,000. The shed houses BVMPS equipment plus equipment from club members as was explained by John Anderson. Among the items is a 1500hp Blackstone engine which came from ABC broadcasting and hopefully in the not too distant future will be going again.
A Garford truck which was owned by the Howard family and used in their Angaston quarry and items from Karl Lindners collection which were originally part of Kev Rohrlach’s museum.
Editors Note: Thanks to Mark G. for providing a summary of his opening address to the members.
It was a well attended vocational visit on 10/2/22 to BVMPS. Attendees enjoyed an excellent two course meal for $15. Special thanks to David West who provided the scrumptious Sticky date Puddings. The charge of $20 also included a fee/donation of $5 per attendee to BVMPS. The work that has gone into the BVMPS is a credit to the committee and volunteers who have rounded up a huge amount of old farm machinery and implements, which members continue to improve and repair. Well worth a visit.

Community Director - Peter Perkins
1. Great Revival Shop (GRS), situated in Kavell Arcade Tanunda is an Op shop specialising in selling recycled clothes. GRS has faced significant headwinds which have affected their operations-
- Late last year a severe storm hit the Barossa Valley. GRS had to close their shop for nearly 2 months whilst repairs were made to the shop premises.
- The Rotary club, which through the Rotary clothing bins provides the GRS with clothing resources, has recently temporarily closed the Nuriootpa bin to affect much needed maintenance and negotiate another site in the Nuriootpa Shopping Centre.
Despite these setbacks, GRS has reopened and continues to record strong trading figures. At the last GRS management committee meeting, a cheque for $1,500 was donated to the Rotary Club. The GRS has been a long time supporter of the Club's Operation Flinders program and has requested that the cheque be earmarked to support this program.
2. The Rotary District 9510 District Conference is to be held at the Faith Centre from 1st to 3rd April. The Club has been asked to provide lunch on Sunday 3rd April. Exact numbers of lunch packs have not been provided, but most recent advice suggests more than 180. This will be the Club's most significant financial event for this Rotary year, so we shall require volunteers to cook, prepare and serve lunches for Rotarians attending the District Conference. I shall request names at the next Rotary meeting.
............................................................................................................... Goodbye Gavin and is it farewell?
PDG Peter Thomas reluctantly informed the gathering at the last meeting that our very active member Gavin Sidhu and his wife, Lefin Ma, are on the move, and are preparing to travel the world for the next nine months. High on their agenda will be an extensive visit to Uganda. They plan to also visit Malaysia and Scandinavia.
As members know, Gavin's determination to support the people of Uganda with their dental hygiene has been high on his wish list. Gavin has enthusiastically kept the club members informed of developments in this direction. Consequently a lot of hard work with the support of PJT, saw the approval of a Rotary Foundation Global Grant of approx $80k.... which enabled his wish to materialise. Gavin plans to be in Uganda to attend the wedding of his Rotarian dentist friend Joseph who is managing the Global Grant project.
We wish him and his wife the happiest of travels and naturally look forward that when he returns he can tell us all about it.

The Kangaroo Island Cup
Every year a varying group of members, partners and friends toodle off to K.I. for a brief holiday of relaxation and living in hope of a big win at this very important race meet. As Editor of the club's bulletin one lives in hope that someone might just send in an article of their holiday and this prestigious horse race event. Fortunately, for me it is amazing what turns up on Facebook.
In this delightful picture above we see Mignon and Barbara dressed up to the nines already for the big race. Whilst I am not fully aware of who won what, I have heard on the grapevine that Mignon cleaned out the bookies. If that is correct Mignon (?) our heartiest congratulations.

JUST A THOUGHT
To be happy you must: Let go of what's gone, be grateful for what remains, and look forward to what is coming next.
