OUR GREATEST ASSET
AUGUST MARKS MEMBERSHIP AND NEW CLUB
DEVELOPMENT MONTH - A TIME FOR US TO
CELEBRATE AND REFLECT ON ROTARY'S FOUNDATIONS,
OUR MEMBERS AND CLUBS.
Our Rotary members are at the heart of everything we do. Their
passion, commitment and diverse skills help us create lasting change
in communities worldwide. The stronger our membership, the more
visible we are in the community, and the more resources we have for
creating impact.
We experience The Magic of Rotary primarily through our clubs.
Research shows that club experience is the single most important
factor in member satisfaction. To attract and engage members,
clubs need to offer experiences that members have told us they
want: meaningful service, connections with others, personal growth
opportunities, strong leadership and fun!
At the same time, our clubs should be welcoming and inclusive, so that
members feel they belong.
New clubs are an opportunity for us to expand our reach and
increase our participant engagement. Opportunities to start new
clubs are all around us whether it's:
A location that has never had a club or had one in the past
A specific cause or community need
An under-represented group or demographic
Service-oriented people with busy lifestyles who couldn't or
haven't wanted to join us previously
Not only are new clubs a way for us to do better in the world,
they also keep Rotary diverse, vibrant and relevant.
I hope that in August and throughout the coming year you'll join
President Stephanie Urchick in making the Rotary experience
'Simply irresistible'.
Thank you for everything that you do!
Our members - you - are our greatest asset.

        President Steve's Snippets
Our program co-ordinator, Keith Adams, suggested that members be ready to share their life stories in case a guest speaker is unavailable. I've heard a number of members' stories and find them truly fascinating and interesting; everyone has a great story to tell.

During our last meeting we were fortunate to have another outstanding speaker, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Keith Adams. It’s always enlightening to hear about the initiatives other groups are undertaking to enhance the quality of life in our community. Please speak with Keith if you have in mind someone who would have an interesting story.

Our board is now focusing on growing our membership and exploring new initiatives to increase our visibility. We want to spread the word that Rotary is alive and thriving and highlight the fantastic work we do. We’d love to hear your ideas on how we can better share our story and attract more people to join us. Likewise, if you know someone who is community minded, let us know so we can formulate a way to approach them. Or simply have a chat with them yourself!

The focus of regionalisation is to increase Rotary’s impact and reach, with an emphasis on growth. As a result of our G7 meeting, we plan to create a Facebook page for Group 7 where all member clubs will contribute content about their fantastic projects and initiatives. The intent is to tag other community groups and individuals to increase the reach of these great Rotary stories, encouraging engagement and aiming to boost membership. This commitment is yet to be ratified by our board.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting on Monday, Sept 2nd.

Guest Speaker - Pastor Adrian Kitson St Petri Lutheran Church
Adrian presented an interesting talk on Men's Health, particularly in
relation to communicating with each other.
'The St Petri community in Nuri have been reaching out to men for 15 years by hosting a monthly gathering in sheds around the Barossa Valley aimed at helping men be OK. Around 100 men usually gather for Shed Happens. The goal of those who coordinate it is to help men tell their story and support each other in the many and varied challenges men face.
This is done by way of plenty of time for blokes to just chat together, then share a simple BBQ meal followed by a short spiritually focused thought or two and then an interview of an every-day bloke. The hope is that by one bloke sharing his story from the heart he helps another bloke with whatever he is facing.
It is built on an old proverb from the Bible.
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.'

Rotarian Julie Weckert with Pastor Adrian.

Letter from Ashton Hurn MP
Many homes in the Barossa would have received an
invitation to attend Ashton's "Seniors Forum" which was held in the Nuriootpa Soldiers Memorial Hall last Tuesday the 20th of August. At the last-minute Peggy and I decided to accept the invitation. The hall was packed with around 200
'seniors' from all parts of the Barossa.  It was more like attending a packed theatre of 'Aging residents', many of whom we knew from Rotary, Lions,
  Probus and so on.
All in all, it was an outstanding event with three interesting guest speakers.
   1. a representative from the RAA covering Road Safety tips
2. Stroke Foundation covering Stroke preventing life assessments
 3. covering the first steps to Dementia awareness.
Each spoke for about 30 minutes on their chosen topics. Morning tea was provided and after that Ashton's husband Adam turned up with their 15-week-old little boy Rupert who was also ready for his morning feed.

Ashton Hurn member for Schubert
This was Ashton's first forum in the Barossa Valley and she thanked everyone for attending and intimated that due to its success another would be considered in twelve months' time.

Fellowship afternoon at the Theatre,
benefitting Australian Rotary Health
Sunday September 8th 2024.
Booking, see details on this flyer, or preferably let Karin
Bosomworth know that you wish to attend.
Over the years many Rotarians and friends have attended
these theatre functions. 'TAKE MY HAND' above is a very interesting story. Karin and the Brookes are going. We suggest carpooling. Karin can take four in her car, and we can take two. Please decide as soon as possible and please purchase your tickets.

Barry Klaebe.
Today you have been advised of the death of former Rotarian Barry Klaebe. Many of our members will remember Barry. In 2011 he was in the final working team that spent two weeks working in the Solomon Islands. Sect. Sandie will advise funeral arrangements if and when known.
