Wanera Wine Bar - Angaston

  Thursday March 3rd 2022

Invocation
Oh lord and giver of all good, we praise thee for our daily food.
May Rotary friends and Rotary ways help us to serve thee all our days.

Quote of the month

World Understanding and Peace
If we are to succeed in our efforts toward world cooperation, we must learn to think of the world not as an aggregation of Sovereign States, but as a world community of divinely created beings with hopes and ambitions and fears like our own. The key that will unlock the door to a peaceful tomorrow, from the scourge of war, is the discovery that nations are people.

What has happened since the last meeting?

  • Last Friday we had photos taken with the BAFFC car for The Leader, which you probably have seen by now. Even though several of us attended to represent our club and the Airshow committee, Peter Perkins obviously paid The Leader a whole lot more than the rest of us, because he’s the only one of us in the photo!
  • Mr. President you are also in the picture below!! - unless I'm going blind....Editor

The use of a magnifying glass will enable you to see the           Rotary Wheel on the vehicle.

  • If you haven’t already picked up a raffle book from Sandie on the way in, please collect one or two before you leave. We need to sell all the tickets allocated to us – we only have half as many as last year so it shouldn’t be difficult. Please return your ticket butts and money collected to Sandie by the meeting on Thursday 31st March.
  • We had a great response from our members wanting to attend the last meeting of the Rotary Club of Kapunda on Monday 16th May. We expect to receive invitations for the eleven people soon, probably directly to Sandie, and she will distribute them.
  • We’re still looking for guest speakers for our first and third meetings of each month, so if you have any suggestions please contact Keith Adams for a choice of dates for you to discuss with your nominated guest.
  • At the recent Area 5 Presidents meeting with AG Craig, it was formally announced who will be taking over from AG Craig as Area 5 Governor from 1st July 2022. As I mentioned last meeting, AG Craig will be DGE from that date, so needed a replacement AG. Well the good news – or maybe the bad news, depending on your perspective! – is that the Area 5 Governor from 1st July will be ….. ME!
I looking forward to working with Peter Perkins, our President then, and of course with other clubs in our area.

  • Congratulations President Bill - Editor
  • Unfortunately RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Awards – which was to be held in April has been postponed (due to Covid of course) until September. Please talk to Prue to find out the criteria for nominating a young person to undertake RYLA, as this a fantastic opportunity as we know from previous attendees, such as Oscar Seppelt.
  • The Board decided at our meeting last week that we would donate $1000 to the RAWCS Tonga Volcano and Tsunami appeal.
  • We have been offered the opportunity to apply for District funding to replace our promotional materials which feature the outdated Rotary wheel logo. We are getting a quote for a banner, decals for the catering trailer and cool room, and replacement A-frame inserts, so will keep you posted for news after we have submitted our application which has to be in by end of March. These funds are inclusive of the feather flag which we’ve already received.
  • About the District Conference :
    • we’ve been notified that attendees must be double vaccinated;
    • we need people to help prepare and serve lunch on the Sunday, and clean up afterwards; Peter P is organising this, but as he isn’t here tonight, Sandie will take names of volunteers.
What’s coming up?
  • We’ve had no response yet to our invitation to the Governor to deliver the Sir Condor Laucke Oration which we are hosting on Thursday 12th May. Please put this date in your diary and we’ll share more information as it comes to hand. We need people to help with organising this event, nothing onerous, so please see me or Sandie.
  • Remember the next meeting will be at the Tanunda Hotel on 17th March and again on 31st March. At the beginning of the meeting on 31st March, we’ll give everyone a voting slip, and they’ll be collected at the end of the meeting for counting, together with those responses from people who can’t be there on the 31st. The results will be shared on Friday morning, 1st April (and Sandie promises no April Fools jokes!).
Does anyone have any other business before I close the meeting?
  • Just a heads up that reciting the Four Way Test will be rostered across all members and posted in the Bulletin, in the same way as Sergeant, Invocation, Loyal Toast etc.  In the interim, could I please have a volunteer for tonight?
  • Remember our guest speaker at our next meeting on the 17th March, at the Tanunda Hotel, will be CJ from Century 21 Barossa.
  • Thank you for attending tonight’s meeting, stay safe and well until we meet again in two week’s time at the Tanunda Hotel. Please stick around for a social catch up.

                                            Airshow 2023
                      It's only 12 months away

PP Keith Millington has prepared a five minute promotion of the Airshow held on April 11th 2021 at the Rowland Flat Airfield. The presentation will be shown at the District Conference, along with the projects of another eight clubs.  The  Conference Committee has advised club presenters that they must stick to the time limit of five minutes. We all remember the successful Airshow last year, and this is another opportunity to promote Rotary and our club to a large audience.

      THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say or do
This test can be applied profitably in relations with others in the home, community, business, national and international life - particularly to proposed plans, policies, statements and advertising in business and the professions; to proposed legislation in government; to relations between teachers and students.

Please note that 'An additional row has been added to the                                                  Duty Roster'

            District 9510 Conference April 1st - 3rd
As you all know club members will be providing the final lunch on 3/4/22 for attendees at this year's District Conference. PDG Peter Thomas is in charge and will require a number of willing helpers to assist on the day. Peter has advised that lunches will be prepared at the Nuriootpa Recreation Centre, packed and delivered to the Foyer at the Faith School for distribution to those who have the required ticket.

The Rotary Club of Lautoka in Fiji  sent the following information to clubs around the world concerning the tragic happenings in Ukraine.

There are over 50 Rotary Clubs and 24 Rotaract Clubs in Ukraine. Whilst we hope for peace and safety for all Ukrainians we extend a special hope for the safety of all Rotarians, Rotaractors and their families at this time.

Editor note - I received the following article from John Germ on 4th March. As often happens when tragic situations occur around the world including our own country, the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International will inevitably set up the opportunity for anyone to donate. You will read below that a Disaster Response Fund has been established until 30th April 2022 for Districts affected by the war in Ukraine.

As one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, Rotary has made peace the cornerstone of our global mission. We are deeply concerned about the Ukraine crisis and need your help.

Rotary is made up of people of action, especially in difficult times. In response to the deepening refugee crisis, The Rotary Foundation Trustees have decided to prioritize contributions made to the Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022 to support disaster response grants for districts affected by these events. These expedited disaster response grants can be used to supply water, food, medicine, shelter, and clothing.

Half a million people have fled Ukraine and are in dire need of emergency aid. The United Nations estimates that number of refugees could grow to as many as 5 million people displaced. Rotary clubs in Europe and around the world have stepped up their relief work, some working on the ground to help displaced families.

With your donation to our Disaster Response Fund, we can support communities and help rebuild lives during this tragic time.

Sincerely,

John Germ
Trustee Chair, 2021-22
The Rotary Foundation

All donations are made via RAWCS and details can be found at RAWCS.org.au
