The District eConnections featured DGE David Jones who gave a presentation on what is happening with the merging of the two districts. David has a team working on the next District Conference which will be in Bendigo, Victoria. Hopefully, by then the coronavirus will be a bad memory.
Several issues are on the Board meeting agenda for tonight that will impact on the club and could mean a lengthy meeting. We will be discussing how we can get the club to meet in person, as early as possible without breaking social distance rules and also stay within the State Government regulations. Not an easy task, especially as we don’t know which rules will be relaxed or when, but the good news is we will be looking at options on how we can get the meetings operating again.
Planning for next year is also on the agenda. Club goals and objectives will be set so that when things do get back to normal we will be ready.
Talking about future planning, the District sent out an email with a survey seeking everybody's views on where Rotary will be in 100 years. There are two response options, email or website. PDG David Egan would prefer the website option as that will go directly into the database. The email response will require transcribing by someone. If you have not had the email, call me and I will pass it on.

A Lockdown Smile.
After all this self-isolating, I did not believe 10 weeks of uncut hair could weigh 5 Kg, but that’s what the scales say so it must be right.

               Please Note ....

At tonight’s Board meeting, the Board requests that Club Members contribute $20 per month to the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley, during the time that we are unable to conduct our usual weekly meetings.

This would approximate the contribution of $5 per attendee per meeting towards Club projects and activities which usually is included in the dinner meeting payment of $25 per member.

The Club needs to ensure that we have adequate funds to support existing projects, as well as any which might occur in the future as a result of the impacts of COVID-19.

Payments can be made to the Club bank account, details as below.

From Don Farley - Info re Clothing Bins

The Great Revival Shop will re-open on 1/6/20.   As advised, the clothing bin roster will re-commence on 11/6/20 to 25/6/20 to start with;  John Little at Angaston, Peter Thomas at Nuriootpa and Bill Simons at Tanunda.

We propose to unlock the clothing bin lids only 2 days before, i.e. 9/6/20, WE WON'T ADVERTISE THESE TIMES! We anticipate a
deluge of stuff, hope it won't swamp us. The Barossa is pretty good at word of mouth for letting people know.

By that time J.J. Richards will be ready to take the rubbish away, and Statewide Cleaning Cloths will be ready to take the white bags away.

Both the Tanunda and Truro sorting teams will be willing and ready by then.

By the following non-meeting  5/6/20 I hope to have the next Rotary year's bin roster ready to email to everyone.
Team Leaders who will be planning events, see below:

Thank you Peter Perkins for researching this as it will shape the way the new Rotary year progresses.  Obviously it is a moving feast at this time so updates will be made available as things progress.

Peter also contacted SA Health Department and inquired about clearing/handling clothes and objects from Rotary Clothing Bin. He was advised that normal precautions should be observed; i.e.  ensure that we should wear gloves when handling clothes and objects from clothing bin and to use hand sanitizer after completing clearing the clothing bin.

It is strongly recommended that sturdy gardening style gloves or leather gloves are worn to provide protection from stick injuries.

Hello Sandie and fellow Rotarians,

The time has come, after many years of “dilly-dallying”, to submit my resignation to the Rotary Club of the Barossa Valley.

I had hoped that Karen and I would return to the Barossa Valley to live again, which is why I have kept up my membership since leaving the area.

In my heart we have only ever had one community which we hold dear; the larger Barossa, including Eden Valley. None of the other many locations we have lived in since leaving the Barossa area have had the community spirit and feeling of home, which is just day to day normal in the Barossa. Karen and I miss it very much and will always drop in as visiting Rotarians when we are in the area.

Since 2014, Karen and I have still been very involved with Rotary. Karen as a member of Hope Island Rotary Club and I have held an Honorary membership in that club, as the Rotary rules prevented me from being a member of both Hope island and Barossa Valley.

We are currently living (since March 2019) in Georgetown, which is on Penang Island in Malaysia. We have MM2H visa’s which allow us to stay until May 2024 and also have an option of extending until May 2029. Georgetown has 3 Rotary Clubs. At the club that we have attended most we are the only “round eyes”. The meetings are generally conducted in a combination of Hokien, a little Malay and English. When we attend they conduct the meetings in English. Typical Rotarian friendliness and consideration.

In giving my resignation, I would like to thank all members of the club and in particular Bryce Lillicrappe as my original sponsor, for the wonderful friendship and memories which I have found within Rotary where ever I travel.

Please accept this resignation effective from 31st May 2020.

Kind regards,

Greg Norris."

           "I did not know that!"

Nothing submitted but David West has promised something really good as soon as the pasta "second wave" passes!!

The Club meetings provided lots of Fellowship, allowing everybody to catch up with what everybody else had been doing. In an attempt to keep some of that fellowship going, I ask members to submit information, anecdotes, gossip or jokes so that we can use the Bulletin to keep in touch with each other.
