Cold showers, ice baths and electing to do both those things intentionally! Biohacking for longevity and improving one's health certainly sounds like a good idea. I'm not too sure about my tolerance for cold showers but maybe time to "eat that frog" and try it. We all have our ups and downs with our health, as our speaker pointed out simply doing a tad more exercise and eating better can rapidly improve one's overall health and wellbeing. Some interesting food for thought and I look forward to receiving more material in the Bio-Hacking Australia e-mail I signed on for.
As we head into spring and look forward to good weather, flowers and bbqs I encourage anyone who may have a vocational idea to please speak up to one of the board members, in particular, Mike Connors, or myself.
Monday 22nd of December - please save the date. We will have a fellowship meeting at Bethany Reserve. There will be an email specifically about this too.
Spring has sprung! Be merry! Plenty of flowers to enjoy and local wines to consume to support our industry!

Guest Speaker Greg Mickan
Biohacking.
Frank Ware introduced Greg Mickan, former Rotarian and Past President of the Rotary Club of Kapunda, which sadly held its last meeting in 2022.
Greg first heard about Bio-hacking several years ago, and since then he has been utilising the principles "without going overboard and without living on kale or becoming a monk"!
Biohacking is described as “the process of making small changes to our everyday lives, thus “hacking” our biology in order to increase our overall health and support longevity”.

The benefits of biohacking include:
  • Having more energy
  • Getting better sleep
  • Less Stress and
  • Managing our weight.
- all of which help us to look and feel younger, for longer.

Hints and tips (i.e., hacks) include things like…
  • Eating a frog first thing in the morning (Doing something you don't want to do, but you have got to do it)
  • Taking cold showers
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Grounding
  • Taking collagen supplements
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Gratefulness

Events and opportunities for members and friends. Please help where you can, particularly RYDA.

RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) – Young People need YOU!
A great program for Year 11 students from Nuriootpa High School, Faith Lutheran College, Kapunda High School and Eudunda Area School, with a view to helping them to avoid motor vehicle accidents, either as a driver or a passenger.
Roles are guides who accompany teachers and groups of students between presentations, and sausage sizzlers to help feed the hungry hordes at lunch time. The program runs across Tuesday 16th, Wednesday 17th and Friday 18th September.
It’s always good to have some reserves, so please advise your availability to John Semmler via email vronjohn@internode.on.net or phone 0438 594 327 as soon as possible.
Kiwanis Club of the Barossa Valley Changeover Dinner – You’re invited!
By now you will have received emails with the invitations for our members to attend the Kiwanis Barossa changeover on Thursday 25th September, and their annual Bonfire on Sunday 12th October.
We share a focus on Youth with Kiwanis, and we are planning collaboration with the “new look” Sir Condor Laucke Oration 2026 and Rotary Says No to Domestic Violence activities, so it would be great to share this special event and strengthen our connection with Kiwanis.
Australian Rotary Health Hat Day (World Mental Health Day)
It’s on again this year on Friday 10th October!
Let’s wear our favourite hat to our meeting on Monday 6th October and show our support for those dealing with their own or their loved one's mental health. If you have a hat with a funny story or special memories, wear it with pride and tell us why it is special to you.
Take A Walk … Rotary Walk for Respect, Saturday 11th October
You can register to walk or just find out more information about how you can help those affected by domestic violence via the website Rotary says No to Domestic Violence
