Acting President Keith's Burbles

Acting President Keith welcomed everyone to meeting number 3277.

The Tanunda Town Band Melodienacht went very well with our members serving the Gluwein at about 10:00 pm. We kept the glasses full and the customers happy. Lots left over, so there may have been a couple of headaches due to people trying not to waste any Gluwein. Thanks to Marie for organising and the small army of helpers that did the work.

Our Changeover Night will be on Saturday, July 2nd at the Wanera wine bar in Angaston. The dress code is Black Tie, which means to be more formal with a Tuxedo or a dark suit with a bow tie for men and a formal gown for women. Modern times have relaxed the rules a bit, but footy shorts and thongs on your feet for men, or a floral housecoat and fluffy slippers for women would be frowned upon. Vice Versa even more so.

Don’t spill any food or drink on your formal attire because you will need it again on Sunday, July 3rd for the District Governor's changeover dinner at Moonta.

We are having difficulty getting guest speakers. If you know of somebody willing to give us an interesting talk, please let your team leader or Keith Adams know so that we can enjoy an informative and interesting speaker.

We are coming to the end of the Rotary Year. It has been a difficult period over the last 2 to 3 years and just about all social, sporting and service clubs have struggled to keep operating. Several have closed down, as have many small businesses.
We have been fortunate to have President Bill, Secretary Sandie and the Board working so hard to keep things going during 2021-22. Hopefully, the hard times are over and we can return to something close to normal over the next year with Peter Perkins steering the ship.

One Minutes.
Marie Rothe thanked all the people that helped out for the Melodienacht. Their help made the distribution of the drinks a pleasant task which was well received by the people at the show.

Bev Stephenson gave a report on one of our previous GSE participants Shona Wall (nee Reid) who was appointed to CEO of Reconciliation SA in 2019 and has served in child protection, young offenders and out of home care sector in regional and remote areas including APY lands
In 2020 she was awarded the Flinders Uni Distinguished Alumni Award for services to Aboriginal children, young people and families.
A good news story that shows what a young person we promoted and supported has been able to achieve.

Meeting 3277 was an impromptu meeting in many respects. David West was press-ganged into being Sergeant moments after walking into the room and he promptly went and organised with Mark Graetz to do a Guest Speaker performance on the reasons why we should attend the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne during May 2023.
Mark called on several members who had attended International Conventions to relate their experiences to the members present.
Mark had been to 3 conventions, and Patrick Ritchie-Haydn has attended all 3 of the Australian held Conventions. Brian Graetz, Max Rasmus, Geoff Schrapel and Bryce and Bronwyn Lillecrapp all related some of their experiences they had at International Conventions.
They all recommend attendance at the convention to enable us to get a full picture of what Rotary does internationally. Also, the Fellowship from meeting and talking to Rotarians from all over the world, finding out what they do and comparing that to what we do has produced some interesting conversations and friendships.
There is a proposal to provide a train from Adelaide to Melbourne for the Convention. They hoped for 20,000 Rotarians to attend and around 7,000 rooms have been booked for accommodation. No doubt there will be much more information on the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne made available as we draw
closer to the event.

Official Changeover of Presidents

Members and Friends were informed that the changeover from President Bill to President Peter will take place on Saturday night July 2nd at Wanera restaurant in Angaston. The dress mode is Black Tie. If you have not yet received your invitation, contact PE Peter.

Temporary Editors Note
Robert will be back soon. He took on the Bulletin Editor role a couple of years ago. His background in employment and Rotary (38 years), while wide and extensive, did not cover computers and IT. He took to the Clubrunner Bulletin system like a duck to mountaineering, but despite having little knowledge of the system, he knuckled down, learned the system, researched the subjects, recruited Peggy as his proofreader and consistently produced good bulletins full of news, humour, information and anecdotes. Robert has agreed to continue as Bulletin Editor for another year.
Congratulations, Robert (and Peggy) on a job well done.
Keith Millington, Temporary Bulletin Editor

                                    JUST A THOUGHT

The Millwrights Shop (factory maintenance crew) where I used to work in the UK had an unofficial motto. It was
"If you can't fix it, wreck it so nobody else can".
