Glen Kinross RI President 1997/98
                   PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome to DG David Jones and his wife Lynn, and Area Governor  Craig Dowling.
Sad news about our last Foundation Member Colin Gramp who passed away on the weekend. Sue Graetz will say a few words about this man who did so much for Rotary and the Barossa.
Further sad news, Barry Klaebe has resigned from the club after close to 50 years service. He said he has lost interest in Rotary but has many pleasant memories of his visits to the Solomons and his time in Alice Springs.
The Air Show management team is being formed. One of their first jobs will be to review the previous management policies and procedures and to update them to our requirements. We have a vast amount of paperwork supplied by the previous organisers that will require assessing.
Many files from previous Air Shows have been made available to us and will be distributed to the management committee to assist in their planning process.
Keith Millington
President

.............................................................................................
                 District Governor David Jones

DG David delivered a comprehensive PPP on President Holger Knaack’s leadership and desires for the ongoing growth and opportunities facing Rotarians . He highlighted the International theme of ‘Rotary Opens Opportunities' with three statements:
  1. “We believe that our acts of service, big and small, create opportunities for people who need our help.”
  2. “Everything we do opens another opportunity for someone, somewhere.”
  3. “Rotary isn’t just a club for people to join but rather an invitation to endless opportunities.”
David highlighted Rotary’s vision statement  ‘People of Action’
                                   TOGETHER we see a world
where PEOPLE unite and take action
                                        to CREATE lasting
                                   CHANGE across the globe
in our Communities and in ourselves

        RI STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
  1. Increase our impact  - Eradicate Polio
  2. Expand our Reach – Grow and diversify our membership and participation
  3. Enhance Participant Engagement – Provide leadership development and skill training
  4. Increase our ability to adapt – Build a culture of research, innovation, and willingness to take risks

                 Challenges of Membership
The challenges of ageing and falling membership cannot be addressed without achieving diversity and diversity cannot be achieved without change and flexibility.
Some clubs need to recognise that they may be at a crucial turning point and their future survival depends on the strategies they implement today.
Every club should host one Strategic Meeting each year and ask:
  1. What should our club look like in 5 years time?
  2. What value do we bring to members?
  3. What steps should we take to achieve that vision?
Driven by changing demographics and our busy modern lifestyles, people want,
  1. More flexible opportunities for volunteering
  2. More meaningful volunteering roles
Select new members carefully. Make sure that they are a good fit with your club and that your club meets their expectations. Engage them and take care of them. There is no wrong age to become a Rotarian.
“Continue our club’s efforts to end polio by donating to END POLIO NOW and by hosting a WORLD POLIO DAY EVENT IN October. We must fulfil the promise that we made to the children of the world.”   Each club to contribute US $1500 which becomes US4500 with a 2 for 1 match through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION ‘Doing Good In the World’ Our charity of choice
Was 6 now 7 areas of Focus (Our causes)
  1. Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
  2. Disease prevention and treatment
  3. Water, sanitation and hygiene
  4. Maternal and child health
  5. Basic education and literacy
  6. Community economic development
  7. Supporting (protecting) the environment
100 years of Rotary in Australia comes up in 2021 become part of the celebration

Finally, Lyn, David’s wife highlighted her partner's project of support for ARH (Australian Rotary Health) and collected donations from the members present, which will be credited to ARH in the name of our Club.

Those present showed their appreciation to DG David, Lyn and AG Craig who was driving back to Loxton after the conclusion of the meeting. (Now that is commitment).

Women in Rotary - A World President

Jennifer E. Jones a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland Ontario, Canada has been nominated to become Rotary Internationals President for 2022-2023, a selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organisations 115 year history.
Jennifer is currently a Rotary Foundation Trustee. She has been a member since 1997 and has served as Vice President, Director, Training leader, Committee Chair, Moderator, and District Governor. She will officially become President Nominee on the 1st October 2020, if no other candidate challenge her nomination.

A few years ago Jennifer was in Adelaide to attend a combined District 9500/9520 Rotary Foundation meeting at the Naval, Military & Air Force Club In Hutt Street. Around 120 people, including Peggy and I went along to hear Jennifer address the gathering. Jennifer acknowledged some Rotarians as Major Donors as well as presenting a number of Paul Harris Fellow recognitions.  Jennifer is a delightful, friendly Rotarian and I'm sure every member in this country will wish her well in the role of President of Rotary International in 2022-2023.
