President's Message
Lots of things came out of the Area 5 Presidents meeting.
- Strategic planning was recommended by AG Craig,
- Craig also recommended we work towards a President’s Citation.
- Quarterly Reporting helps Craig to represent our activities at District Team Leader meetings.
- From the last DTL on 30th August
- Risk Management COVID-19; We are regarded as an Indoor Public gathering so most of the responsibility lies with the venue management. Own plan and COVID Marshal may be done by the club.
- Insurance: Renewal should have been done by now. Certificate of cover will need to be requested in advance as too many requests come for a certificate on the night before it is required. Insurance for over 80 years old is “reduced”, over 90 years old then the cover is nil.
- Club Constitutions need to be updated. The Standard constitution cannot be altered, Bylaws can be whatever the club wants. Copies of Constitution and By-Laws to be lodged with the District. Ours will be done at our AGM meeting. The Constitution and By-Laws are currently being reviewed.
- Rotary Branding: Policies are on My Rotary. Must use the Yellow Wheel.
- Membership - Club visit by Fiona Biederman, membership officer. Recommend we look at ‘Flexible’ membership. Proposed online learning about satellite clubs.
- The Rotary International Convention 2023 will be held in Melbourne, giving members advance notice so they can plan to be there.
- The End Polio Ute Rally schedule has been re-jigged due to Victoria pulling out because of COVID-19.
- Joint Area 5 activity. The Area 5 clubs were interested in joining in with the Air show. I explained it would be a while before final detail becomes available as we have not worked out who does what and at what cost. No firm commitments will be made until we know how the pandemic will affect us.
- Brian Barnett, Barossa District, suggested we have an Area 5 Gathering at a caravan park that also has cabins so that all the clubs can have a social weekend. Blanchetown was one of the suggested venues as non-caravan owners can book a cabin at a good, central Area 5 site.
I mentioned the Rotary Nomads and have passed on their contact details to Craig.
The Air Show management team met at the airfield to see how all the activities would fit.
Secretary Sandie has prepared a COVID Safe Plan from the government web site proforma which will be presented for approval by the Board at their earliest convenience.

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)
Prue Maitland has advised that two Faith School 11 year students, Rebecca Ide and Oliver Fogarty were successful interviewees and have been invited to attend the above forum. Subject to their availability each will present a short address to members, prior to the forum, at our Clubhouse meeting on Thursday November 19th 2020.
District Grants
Mark Graetz last night advised Zoom members that Rotary International's Foundation has approved a Grant of $1000 towards one of the club's University Scholarships.
Rotary International's Annual Convention
The 2023 Convention will be held in Melbourne. These events are held each year, usually in June. If you really want to get a feel for the real internationality of Rotary, then a gathering of 16,000 people and maybe more will do that for you. I have attended two of these one in Salt Lake City, Utah and the other in Sydney. It is still early days. However, I'd encourage you to consider attending when details are released in a couple of years' time.

Have a Heart
Heart of my Heart we love that melody
Heart of my heart brings back a memory.
When we were kids on the corner of the street,
We were rough'n ready guys
But oh, how we could harmonize.
Make sure you attend our next meeting the 17th of September at the Clubhouse, when Sue Graetz will reveal all of 128 hearts and reflect on her memories of the past six months and how Covid19 has impacted our lives.
Heart of my Heart meant friends were closer then
Covid caused us to part
The smiles could have a-risen
If only there was kissin'
For us all that sang "Heart of my Heart"
