The District launched the District 9500 Conference on Monday night. There was a good representation of Cub members attending the innovative virtual conference using Zoom. Over 100 people were logged in to listen to the opening address and view features that would have been given at the actual conference if Coronavirus had not happened. There were a few minor technicalities but the evening was a great success and has set up the next instalment of the Conference next Monday night. A lot of work by the Conference Committee to put the event together, and then adding an extra dimension at the last minute by having to rearrange everything to fit into a series of Zoom meetings. Congratulations to a hard-working team.
Club Board member Gavin was scheduled to be a keynote speaker at the conference but will not present due to the massive cuts that they had to do to the conference. He was given a Speakers gift, an inscribed District 9500 cheeseboard that could become a collector's item as it is from the last D9500 district conference, which Gavin has generously donated to the club to be used as a raffle prize. We may have to wait until we get back to normal before we raffle the cheeseboard.
Talking of getting back to normal, at the end of our last meeting a few people raised the issue of how we can start moving back to normal as COVID-19 restrictions are eased. David West and Peter Frazer had a few suggestions, as did Sue Graetz. I think this is an important subject and request we add this item to the next Board Meeting Agenda. If there are any suggestions from members on how we can return to normal, please raise them with your Team Leader or email me. A lot will depend on which restrictions are eased so that we can formulate a plan. Some of the suggestions already given are:
· Have no meals at the meeting, thus saving space taken up by tables.
· Meet at a venue operated by a local business, similar to the Rehn Brewery meeting.
· Have a less formal, more social meeting to enable people to intermingle but keep the social distancing rules.
· Meet at an outdoor venue to allow more people to gather in one place.
· Have a Rolling meeting where half the club attends at 6:30, the other half at 7:30.
Don Farley tells me that the GRS had a meeting and have decided to open the shop on Monday 1st June. This means that the clothing bins will be resurrected and the roster reinstated. June roster reads; Angaston, John Little; Nuriootpa Peter Thomas; Tanunda Bill.Simmons, those dates starting from 11/6/20 to 25/6/20. Don will arrange for the bins to be unlocked by the start date. Any problems, please contact Don.
