Great night at Rehn Bier last night. Good to visit various locations, especially small businesses and on occasion get away from the normal Club meeting venue.
The owner Robyn Rehn.
Adding to the fellowship enjoyed on the night, was that we were joined by members’ spouses. It was a joy to have Jo Adams, Peggy Brookes and Valerie West present. We had four guests join us - Malcolm & Joylene Seppelt (guests of Prue Maitland), Graham Fromm (guest of Steve 'Biggles' Ahrens) and Rohan Semmler guest of yours truly.
A special word on Rohan. Rohan contacted me recently and offered his services at the forthcoming Tanunda Show. I believe that Rohan works with David Braunack, a friend of Rotary and through his email correspondence with David, Rohan learnt about the Club’s involvement with Tanunda Show. Rohan welcome to the Rotary family!
Talking of the Tanunda Show on Saturday 11th March, we have 13 members, 2 friends of the Rotary club and Rohan Semmler that have volunteered to serve on the Tanunda Show Gates. From the generous donations of these volunteers' time, the Club will receive $1,200, funds that will be used for the Club’s programmes.
The Great Revival Shop (GRS) in Kaval Arcade, Murray Street Tanunda is an Op Shop that is a grateful recipient of second hand goods which Rotary members collect via the three bins located in Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Angaston. This relationship has been a long standing mutually beneficial arrangement. Members of the GRS are regular participants in Club activities e.g. Birthing Kit Assembly. The GRS has also been a generous financial supporter of Rotary programmes, such as “Operation Flinders” and other Club’s activities. This week I received a cheque for $2,000 from GRS that will be deposited with the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley Foundation. Such donations are a regular benefit to the Club from GRS. The GRS donates in excess of $40,000 annually to various Barossa organizations, service clubs and Barossa based charities.

Club visits Rehn's Bier - Editor
A very pleasant evening of fellowship for those who could attend last night's meeting.
The food was first class at $10 per head and was prepared by David West, Bryce & Bronwyn Lillecrapp and Peter Thomas. David also included his usual pudding dessert. It was so good I went back for seconds. Thank you cooks and a special thanks to David for organising an excellent meal.

Rehns Bier make quite a variety of beers and other drinks and are reasonably priced. You could also purchase a selection of six drinks for around $30. Robyn Rehn spoke for a few minutes at the beginning of the evening, welcoming us as a group, mentioning her late husband's passing and the fact that she now manages the business, even though she is recovering from breast cancer. Robyn also kindly gave the club a raffle prize of a six pack, which was won by lucky John Semmler. A bread board prize presented to Gavin Sidhu for his address at the D9510 District Conference was included in the raffle and won by Keith Adams. A big thank you to Marie and Bev for helping me sell the raffle tickets at 10 for $5 and to those who kindly brought along a gift for the raffle. There were 13 gifts in the draw which was handled by Peggy Brookes and President Peter. A lot of fun for the people present with $125 going to the club from the sale of tickets.
All over, done and dusted, with 13 happy winners.
A fair indication of a very happy night.
Something to consider.
Rehns Bier venue is large, it is roomy and comfortable with plenty of tables and chairs for seating and eating. Carparking is available on the side and around the back. It is kept cool in the summer and warm in the winter. There is plenty of room for cooking which can be done under cover if necessary. Due to height and space noise levels are much quieter than some venues. Members may remember a Vocational visit was held at Rehns Bier four to five years ago. It was an enjoyable evening back then, and, as Robyn Rehn pointed out in her brief, a lot has been spent to make it even more comfortable.

Grob Progress
The Grob aircraft has had a partial makeover in preparation for it being mounted on a pole.
The engine has been removed by Steve, Andrew and Graham and, as it is a very commonly used engine for light aircraft, it should be a saleable product. It will probably be refurbished and sold as a replacement engine.
Engine being removed
The Grob then got its first bath in many years. The muck, grime and mould was sprayed with Truck wash soap and water, then scrubbed by hand and rinsed off with a pressure washer. The result was amazing. The dirt, grime, mould and the odd mud wasp nest just fell off and left the Grob looking great.
Steve (the Pilot), Andrew (the Pole builder) Graham (The Airfield Owner) and Keith (The Karcher operator) completed the wash down in a couple of hours.
The next stage will be to build the pole mount subframes, bolt on a propeller, a paint job, some decals and the Grob will be ready to advertise the Airshow.

JUST A THOUGHT
The late John F. Kennedy once said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
Thanks to Marie Rothe for sending in another smile.
