The Rotary Foundation
Polio Plus is just one on the many vital Foundation programs.
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International and to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. The Foundation has the ability to review, organise and implement international programs. Blessed are those who give and blessed are those who receive. Every dollar committed means that somewhere, someone will enjoy better health and live a better life.

Christmas Meeting 16th December 2024
Dress in your finest Christmas apparel and get ready for a fun evening at the Vine Inn on Monday 16th December, when we celebrate Christmas and another successful Rotary year.
We’ll meet at the usual time of 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.
Dinner will cost $35 each for a main (alternate drop fish or turkey, and selection from the salad bar) and a sweet (also alternate drop), and of course if you’re a member of the Vine Inn, you can bring a bottle of your favourite wine without having to pay BYO.
Please bring a few dollars cash for the fun and games!
Official invitations will be sent out soon, with RSVP date of Tuesday 10th December, but in the meantime you can RSVP to our Attendance Officers.

          President Steve's Snippets
I asked how we can keep the momentum going in our meetings, and you've all delivered!
Meeting 3338, following the successful VET Awards, was a testament to our group's energy and enthusiasm. The random seating arrangement sparked new conversations, and the gold coin good news sharing session was a delightful surprise.
We have fantastic news regarding our Rotary District 9510 Grant application to support domestic violence survivors. We've secured a $2,000 grant! While there are a few more steps before the funds are available, we're confident it's a done deal. Initially, we applied for $2,500 and planned to match it with another $2,500, totalling $5,000. After the board meeting, we decided to maintain the $5,000 target. A big thank you to Anne Schilling and Sandie for their invaluable contributions to the grant application. These funds will be used in collaboration with the local Anglican Church to purchase essential personal and home security items for domestic violence survivors.
The Board also discussed the successful VET Awards and will submit a proposal to our foundation to bring it in line with our other Youth Programs.
Given the high energy level and positive engagement, now is the perfect time to consider who you know might be interested in joining our active Rotary group and making a difference in our community.
Let's keep the momentum going!

                   Guest Speaker
                     Benn Shephard. (physiotherapist)
Benn Shephard is a physiotherapist at The Injury Hub in Willaston. His interest in physiotherapy covers a wide range, but he talked to us about the benefits of the GLA:D program.
Good Life with osteoarthritis from Denmark is a research project developed in Denmark that has spread to many countries because of the benefits that have been discovered. It does not cure osteoarthritis but makes life much more comfortable. For many, GLA:D has averted or delayed surgery to replace a hip or a knee. Where surgery has been done, the muscle and soft tissue improvements produced by GLA:D meant the post-op rehabilitation has been quicker and less painful.
The GLA:D program is a series of supervised exercises that target specific areas to strengthen the muscles around affected joints, which helps reduce the stress on those joints and reduces the pain in those joints. Statistics are kept during the process so that the researchers can monitor the effectiveness of the treatment. It is from these statistics that the evidence of the success of the program is produced.

Keith thanked Benn following his excellent presentation.

RYPEN 2024 Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment
This year we were very pleased to sponsor Alana McNally, a Year 10 Student from Faith to attend RYPEN on the first weekend in November at Nunyara, Belair. Alana attended our meeting with her mother Vicki, along with another student Lucy and her mother, Georgia.
The program offers young people an opportunity to develop confidence, self-esteem and relationships. Alana gave a short report with some photos demonstrating the fun, friends and fellowship the weekend provided.
Alana and Lucy are passionate about Science; they are both very interested in attending NYSF. We plan to keep in touch with both Alana and Lucy next year.

In bulletin 3336 you will have read a short article on the passing of PRIP Glen Kinross AO. The November edition of Rotary Down Under (RDU) completes the life story of this remarkable Rotarian. He was inducted into Rotary on August 22nd,1960. He served as District Governor in 1972-73. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Rotary International in 1982-84. He became a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation in 1995-96 and became Rotary International President in 1997-98 and the list goes on.

If you would like to know more about this remarkable man, have a talk to PDG Peter Thomas.

This Global Day of Generosity is an opportunity for all members to make a big impact with a gift of any size. A donation to Annual Fund-SHARE supports projects you’re passionate about, both in your community and around the world. A gift to PolioPlus helps transport vaccines and immunize children to keep them safe.
