The Polio virus continues to be a problem for world health. The virus is able to be carried globally and is a risk for any unvaccinated person.
Rotary, through its association with the Global Polio Eradication Program, is a key partner to lead to the eradication of the disease. The positive unintended consequences from the End Polio program have changed world health, particularly for children, forever. This is why it is now known as the PolioPlus program.
As Rotarians, we need to continually raise awareness and funds to maintain the fight.

A great couple of weeks for volunteering efforts, Team! We had back-to-back days catering for the Barossa Libraries Child and Family Expo, then the SA Rural Women's Gathering. Then this Sunday another successful Mitre 10 sausage sizzle raising funds for End Polio Now. A great team effort to “Unite for Good”. Thanks to those who were able to come along. I'm sure everyone involved had a fun time and some interesting conversations.
On Friday I was privileged to attend the Nuriootpa High School Year 12 graduation evening and awards night. What a great group of young Barossa men and women, off on their journey into society and the workforce and all the challenges and tribulations that go with it.
Congratulations to our Year 12 Awardee and to our 2025 University Scholarship recipient from Nuriootpa High School, Meg Couzner, who I was pleased to meet on Friday night.

A notice from the Barossa Council.

After 25 years of volunteering, Patrick Haydn has retired from his role as volunteer driver for Barossa Community Transport.
Clocking up an incredible 2,128 hours of service and travelling 76,344km - that's an equivalent to two laps around the globe and five times around Australia - Mayor Lange congratulated Patrick at this week's Council meeting and presented him with a certificate of recognition.
🎉Thanks for your service, Patrick and enjoy your retirement! We wish you all the very best. 🙌.........................................................................................................................

Driver Reviver - October Long Weekend, from Lion Tony Branford
"Firstly I would like to thank everybody who helped out on the weekend, much appreciated and hopefully all the visitors that dropped in for a cuppa, had an enjoyable weekend, got home safely, and also let others know about the Driver Reviver.
Over the weekend we had 138 visitors. Friday morning June & I had 14 visitors all mainly heading to the river for the weekend. One couple with their three children, told us that they had managed to book a site for only the one night, as the rest had been booked. On Saturday afternoon I went out to the Driver Reviver site to take out some extra supplies and on arrival, the same couple had stopped in for a cuppa and told of their stay at the river.
I hope everybody enjoyed the weekend and meeting the visitors.
Tony Branford"

Vehicle for Michael Cook of Berri.
The raffle arranged by our club towards the Vehicle of Independence for Michael Cook of Berri raised $430 which has been sent to the Berri club. Thank you to all who bought tickets and contributed towards this worthwhile fundraiser.

Rotary Walk for Respect, Saturday 11th October
Bill and I attended the Walk for Respect organised by the District 9510 Says No to Domestic Violence team, commencing at Victoria Square and finishing at Festival Centre Plaza. Although numbers appeared to be slightly down on last year's Walk, this year the Walk was supported by larger numbers of first responders.

Barossa Libraries Child & Family Expo, Saturday 18th October
Big thanks to the six people who helped to cook and serve up the sausage sizzle for this event. It was heartwarming to see how much enjoyment the little ones had with all the activities available on the day. A lot of them had to be carried out, they were exhausted from having so much fun, especially on the heavy machinery (thanks to The Barossa Council) and in the SAPOL car (thanks to Randal Murch)! People expressed their appreciation, not just for the free activities and sausage sizzle, but also for Rotary's contribution to the day, knowing that we gave our time freely as a community service.

SA Rural Women's Gathering, Sunday 19th October
Another Big Thanks, this time to the fifteen people who gave up their Sunday morning to cook an egg and bacon breakfast for the SA Rural Women's Gathering, hosted by Nuriootpa Futures Association. It was good to catch up with David and Jo Adams, and Partners Kathy Millington and Janet Barnett. And thanks also to Phoenix, James' offsider, who cheerfully shared the workload.
We catered for 238 participants and earned just a couple dollars shy of $2,900 - fantastic work, thanks to all!
And of course we must thank Adam Robinson at the Barossa Co-Op, Corey at Apex Bakery, and Sue at Lyndoch Valley Butcher for their generous support.

News about Bev Stephenson ...
