Rotarians, and more importantly, Barons of the Barossa Geoff Schrapel and Hans Haan pictured with James Marsh CEO of Barossa Grape and Wine Association and Louisa Rose, chief winemaker at Yalumba and President of the Barons

Last night Rotarians were treated to a visit to the Barossa Cellars.  As this editor wasn't present I have included some information from their website.  Apparently the Roxy Proxy who I asked to take notes for me couldn't balance a notebook and a full wine glass!

The Barossa Cellar is an initiative conceived by the Barons of Barossa to build a regional wine museum. It represents a significant community investment in the future of the Barossa. The Barossa Cellar will serve three main purposes:
  • A regional centre for the Barossa wine community, including the day-to-day operation of the Barossa Grape & Wine Association (BGWA)
  • To educate the global wine community about Barossa wine and promote brand Barossa
  • To cellar a magnificent collection of fine wines generously donated by Barossa wineries

The Barossa Cellar is not a cellar door, nor is it a function centre. It operates on a non-commercial basis. The concept of a regional wine museum is unique and exciting.

The Barossa Cellar will be globally recognised and respected and will position the Barossa and Eden Valleys as world-class regions of distinction through a commitment to wine education and the promotion of Barossa wine, viticulture, gastronomy, heritage and arts.

Rotarian Bryce Lillicrapp introduced a grinning Geoff Schrapel to tell Rotarians more about the Barossa Cellar.  Again, no notes were taken!  At least it makes for a short bulletin!

                    Sad news

Our fellow Rotarian, Robert Blenkiron, passed away on Sunday, 26 January 2020.  He will by greatly missed by all in the club and we send our love and sympathies to Rosemarie at this sad time.

                         Congratulations

In this year's Australia Day Awards our very own John Little was awarded an OAM.  Well done and congratulations John!
