Despite being a very warm evening, the soiree went off without a hitch with a good time had by all. I've always loved starting the Rotary year this way. Whilst thoughts of the bushfires and those affected by them were not far from our minds, there was a good feeling of camaraderie and fellowship in the air.
With the money from the auction and raffle plus $1420 from the gate takings, a total of $2,580 was raised. Due to the generosity of Peter and Mignon Sich and Roxane and Peter Canning, who donated the cost of the food, very little in expenses will be deducted from this total.
When the Kangaroo Island Rotary Club closed several years ago, they donated funds of about $500 to our Club. The Board will consider putting the funds raised from the soiree to Kangaroo Island in their time of need. A special account has been added to our accounting system into which these funds and any donations may go.
