Oh lord and giver of all good, we praise thee for our daily food.

Quote of the Month

"Paul Harris's idea has succeeded beyond his fondest dreams because his search for friends took the form of service: Service to others above self. And Rotary grew to encircle the globe as Rotarians learned that joint service efforts to help others, served to enrich their personal friendships."

The Airshow was an amazing spectacular event that exceeded the wildest dreams of the organisers.
Months of hard work by the organising team paid off in spades. The whole thing came together on the day to produce a non-stop aerial action with ground attractions and activities that made the trepidations of the previous months pale into insignificance.
Even the local wildlife wanted to be in the event, as shown here by the Wedge-tailed Eagle joining in with the Silver Sharks Aerobatic Display Team
The day started with clouds and light rain, but by 9 am the clouds were high and there was good light. The wind was a little too much for the parachute drop with the Australian Flag for the opening ceremony but settled down for the drop to occur later in the day. The high clouds gave a perfect backdrop for the aircraft photographers and kept the crowds safe from ultraviolet rays. The flying display entertained the crowds all day.
The market stalls and the static displays were great crowd-pleasers with people checking out the Flying Doctor mock-up, the jet fighter cockpit, the Classic Cars and the CFS trucks.
The food stalls had continuous queues all day and had to get extra supplies. We could have done with more vendors but the food was really good.
Getting into the grounds was easy with the car parking team working well and the Eventbrite ticketing system getting everyone through the gate and into the show,
The organisers have still got some work to do, it took us two days to get the airfield back to normal and we need to get all the paperwork finished and the accounts sorted. We will be having a de-brief meeting to go through the event, work out what we did well, what we could have done better and what needs a re-think.
The next Airshow will be in 2023, hopefully sans Covid Management Plans and associated workloads. It is a long time until the next Airshow, but if we refine the plans for the last one, we will make the next one even more successful and a lot less work.

Message from Steve, Air-Show Manager.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley for hosting and running the very successful 2021 Barossa Airshow. The Airshow committee is to be commended for their hard work and tenacity, a truly fantastic group of “can do” people who simply make things happen. Members of the Rotary Club have done a brilliant job of adopting the event to make it your own and cement the event's future, and the future of fundraising for the Barossa Rotary Club. I am personally moved that the Airshow has found a new home with Rotary, and the event will now have a greater presence in our community.
The 2021 Barossa Airshow continues to receive rave reviews of its success and how well organised and smoothly the day ran. Patrons were treated to a fantastic day of variety, from the various quality stalls and static displays, to the assortment of food and treats, the day had something for everyone.
Aviators were in their element, surrounded by an eclectic range of aircraft and flying machines. One of our star acts “The Silver Sharks” aerobatic formation team had tee shirts made with the Barossa Airshow logo, especially for the day. Aviation friends are raving about the fantastic job Rotary has done, and in the same breath tell you how they cannot wait for the next one in 2023. The other fantastic thing is these same people are there to help make the 2023 Airshow even better. One of our commentators, Brenton Ragless thanked us many times through the day for allowing him to be a part of a true community event, Brenton and his family truly enjoyed the day.
The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley now have an even greater extension of friends and helpers to assist with the fantastic work Rotary does, and I’m deeply humbled to be made an Honorary Member of such an esteemed group of people.

Rotary Information
John Semmler presented an up to date picture of Rotary International's success with the Polio Program. From 1988 to now the crippling disease of polio has almost been eradicated with just a few cases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It has been a long journey. However, determination and financial support from Rotary Clubs around the world will continue until it has been wiped out.

  Honorary Membership

Steve Ahrens (Lyndoch Motors) and the Air-show Manager accepted the club's invitation to become an Honorary Member. An appropriate club badge was presented to Steve by President
Mark Graetz and those in attendance acknowledged it with acclamation.

Just a Thought
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

And when you think of what was achieved with our first Air-Show, remember 'The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done'.
