Lift The Lid on Mental illness

Rotarian Phil Martin gave members and friends a masterly performance as the club's sergeant at last night's meeting. Taking in some good fun and laughter to the seriousness of those who have suffered with mental health issues, he displayed all the sensitivities of humanity.   At some time in our lives each one of us has likely known of someone who has been affected by the sadness or loss that occurs as a result of mental illness. Well done Phil...Thank you.

Australian Rotary Health commenced its life in 1982 by granting $2 million for research into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Since 1986 through to 2019 over $46 million has  been distributed for scholarships, grants and fellowships to Australian researchers.  From the year 2000, ARH has focussed its funding on mental health research. In 2012 this focus narrowed to the 'Mental Health of Young Australians', and in 2013 research projects focussing on the 'Prevention of Mental health' were included.

At our club meeting a variety of hats were displayed by members who were happy to 'Lift the Lid'.  Each contributor gave a brief on what their hat meant to them. The photo below shows those selected by the judges as the best from the crop of hats in the room.

Left to right - Brian wearing his Canadian Racoon hat, Bev wearing her Mickey Mouse hat (love the ears), Ian wearing his South American special and Robert wearing a late Auntie's gardening hat.
I recommend that this event be included in our program every year. Editor.

                              Wine Sales

Please support the wine sale as proceeds will benefit the work of Australian Rotary Health. Some very good wine awaits your purchase on the order form. You can mix a dozen with two lots of six. Perhaps a little more expensive than Dan Murphy's but you'll know that the profit will be ' 'Supporting Healthier Minds, Bodies and Communities Through Research, Awareness and Education.'
Orders must be returned to John Campbell.  email: john@jcampbell.com.au no later than Friday Oct.30th 2020

Rotary Polio Ute Visit to Tanunda

  • Vehicle will be parked in front of the Visitors Information Centre in Tanunda; Council will put out cones to reserve two bays.
  • Jo Seabrook at the Visitors Information Centre has agreed that we can utilise the area between the footpath and the lawn to set up a stall.
  • We will use the stall to sell raffle tickets and to provide information about Rotary, about our Club, and about Rotary’s Polio eradication program.
  • We will need assistance to attend the stall and hand out information and sell raffle tickets.
  • Our contribution to the raffle is a prize of at least $1500 worth of gift vouchers from Barossa Valley businesses.
  • We need urgent assistance to source gift vouchers for the raffle please!
So far we have vouchers from Bethany Wines (thanks Geoff), Lanzerac Estate B&B (one night donated by Lanzerac, with a second night donated by Bill & Sandie), Barossa Valley Cheese Company, and Catherine Lawler's Barossa Art Space Gallery.
  • A list will be circulated at each Clubhouse meeting between now and then, for volunteers to roster for any two hours between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

Barossa Air Show - Sunday 11th April 2021

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

We will need lots of volunteers to help with setting up and dismantling, and especially on the day, ie Friday 9th April, Saturday 10th April, Sunday 11th April (“the day”), and Monday 12th April.
Please make yourself available for at least half a day on at least one of these days.
We’d also welcome any of your family and friends who are able to help out.
At this point we just need numbers, and actual activities will be worked through and allocated at a later date.
A list will be circulated at each Clubhouse meeting between now and end of March 2021, but you don’t have to be at a meeting to commit your time.
Please contact one of the Board members now, to confirm your commitment.
