The old saying about charity beginning at home is still a valid one.
It is good and necessary to look at distant lands, but it is also essential to be concerned with problems in your own hometowns. If you enjoy Rotary, if you believe in the ideals of Rotary, if you are
proud to be a Rotarian, if you would strengthen Rotary as an international force, if you would advance the work of Rotary, then you have the privilege and obligation to share Rotary with other worthy persons.

Past Member - The Late Ian Rice.
To Members and Friends of Rotary Club of Barossa Valley
It is with sadness that I advise of the passing on 11th April of Ian Rice, a former member of the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley.
Ian joined Rotary and our Club on 1st April 1978, was President of our Club 2005-2006, and resigned on 24th June last year, due to failing health.
Ian was our Club's Bulletin Editor for many years and often was supported in Rotary activities by his wife Beverley, who also was well known to many of our Club's members.
Ian's Funeral Service will be held on Monday 28th in the Angaston Uniting Church at 11.00 am.

Maundy Thursday - Breakfast meeting
Members and partners who attended were fortunate to have retired minister Brian Schwarz present an Easter Message.
'Maundy gets its name from the Latin word for command. That is because on the evening of this day
Jesus gave two commands. One was after he gave them the Eucharist or Lord's Supper. He said to them 'Do this in remembrance of me". The second command is one that you Rotarians understand and agree with. Rotary is not a religious organisation, but Rotary's roots lie in Judeo-Christian culture. Rotary's inspiration comes from Christian values and in particular from the story about Jesus washing his disciples' feet. One of the core values of Rotary is service.'
Brian said, "I'm sure that you have found that serving others is rewarding. Your service brings help to others and at the same time brings blessings to you. And that is just what Jesus promised.
Following Maundy Thursday the next day was Good Friday - the day when Jesus was nailed to a cross and died an awful death. Good Friday is not just a tragedy. It is the greatest act of service. Jesus' death is a washing of humanity. It is God's way of bringing forgiveness to us - of washing us clean from the dirt and grime of sin. By dying on the cross Jesus has won forgiveness for all of us. Through trusting in him we receive that forgiveness and peace with God. It is not a way of trying to make up for all the bad stuff we have done. Our service to others is a response to the love God has shown to us in Jesus. We love others because he first loved us. We serve others because he has served us so wonderfully well. In the years I lived in PNG I met lots of Rotarians who were there to build schools or medical clinics. I saw many great projects done by teams of Rotarians. These projects are to a large degree the fruit of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday."
Thank you, Brian, for your message at this Maundy Thursday Meeting.

Peter and Brian, a friendship that began in PNG
Congratulations to President Steve. It is amazing what he can put together, when he's up in the air.
(Sat 12th April) Went to the footy today, but they had already finished!... Don’t play for long, do they? Perhaps I’ll try again tomorrow! Must say that while at work this morning all the parking and the large
crowd seem to be well organised. Popped over to Tanunda as well, but didn’t look like much of a crowd! Guess they have an issue with parking.
(Sun 13th April) Got to the footy a bit earlier today, … Could see people running around aimlessly within the green circle, so I guess that would be the highly paid players. I took several photos
And the last one is from the 25th of May 2024, to give reference to how smoothly, and quickly this project happened. A credit to all those involved…. No doubt building it during a drought
allowed for minimal weather interruptions.
Advance notice of RYDA 2025.
Monday September 15 to Thursday September 18.
Cancel holidays and all appointments.
10 volunteers needed each day.
Cheers,
John Semmler
Secretary

Let sleeping dogs lie. This may well be the
answer to the person seen in the picture below.
Maybe you have seen this photo recently. The dog looks quite peaceful.

Invitation to our club members to attend.
Rebecca Reynolds, Co-Director of the Barossa Vintage Festival, has invited our Members to attend the Touchdown and Taste Off event at the Barossa Rams Rugby Club, at 5.00pm on April 24th, per Rebecca's email below.
I have received additional information about this event, ie:
- The Grapevine delegates from Texas will all be attending (including Rotarians).
- Nuriootpa High School Marching Band will be kicking off the exhibition American Football Game.
- Our Grapevine friends will participate in the coin toss to start the game.
- Nuriootpa students and teachers (Rick and Milly) of the Study Tour going to Grapevine in September will be catering the event with American & German style hotdogs, popcorn and fairy floss – hoping to add monies raised to their fundraising efforts.
- Blind Wine Tasting – Barossa vs Grapevine wines.
It's sure to be a fun event and something a little out of the ordinary for a Thursday night! Just copy the link in Rebecca's email and paste it into your browser to purchase your ticket ($10 per adult and kids under 18 free).
Sandie sends her regards and hopes you can attend.
