BOARD MEETING 26TH NOV 2020

AIRSHOW MEETING Dec 3rd 2020

Invocation:
Oh lord and giver of all good, we praise thee for our daily food.
May Rotary Friends and Rotary ways help us to serve thee all our days.
Quote of the Month
There is an element of compassion in most people and certainly in every Rotarian. In addition, Rotarians have many interests in common. They like the fellowship aspects of Rotary. From the earliest records that we have of Rotary, we have learned that fellowship answered a desire to be with friends. The combination of fellowship and compassion quite naturally developed into a strong motivation for service to society.

                       PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

                              Board meeting

The Board meeting on Nov 26th was very constructive. The Board expressed concern over the welfare of the club during the pandemic and reflected on how vulnerable the Airshow is should there be another outbreak, similar to the Parafield outbreak, close to the Airshow in April.

A lot of club activities have had to be put on hold or cancelled due to the current restrictions. We are expecting further announcements from SA Health soon, but until the changes are announced we can do very little apart from doing some planning and hoping for the best.

The AGM will be on 10th December where we will have to vote on the District 9510 standard club constitution and our bylaws, and the Board for 2021-22. The current restrictions at the Clubhouse are that only 36 people can attend in the upstairs meeting room, so this means that we will need to register an intention to attend with Marie with the understanding that only the first 36 will be allowed in. Hopefully, by the date of the AGM, the restrictions will have been eased so that all members that want to attend will be able to. I wonder how many other times an AGM has had to have a restriction on members attending?

The Christmas Dinner meeting on 17th December at the Vine is still on the cards, but obviously dependant on the SA Health regulations being relaxed enough to allow the Vine Inn dining rooms to be opened. We will let you know if the event is to be cancelled as soon as we know, in the meantime, we are hopeful that the pandemic will not spoil our Christmas.

The Soiree in January is also under a cloud as getting a suitable venue that will allow us all to gather there and still meet Covid-19 regulations is proving difficult. It may be we have to postpone it until more favourable conditions prevail.

The current situation is not helping with the health of the Club, but please stay focused on the fellowship provided by the Club and the opportunity to do some good in our community. The COVID-19 infection rate is low and appears to be under control so there is a great probability that we can get back to normal soon.

                                     Reminders
Please remember to record your volunteer hours into Club Runner, or if you are not sure how to do this, send the details to Secretary Sandie Simons. Regularly emptying clothing bins, builds the hours up, so it is to important to ensure that time taken is recorded.
Dec 10th is an important date in our Rotary calendar. It is the club's AGM and members are reminded to attend to vote on necessary business issues.  Thank you

                        Christmas Delivers
Last Sunday afternoon Steve Ahrens and his passenger were on a mission when they flew into Truro Flats Airfield, which is nowhere near Truro. Steve said it is probably closer to Blanchetown or halfway between the two towns.

The Antique Aeroplane Association holds this event each year, to collect and donate toys for those kids who sometimes miss out on the pleasure of receiving presents.
Association members take along suitable toys and place them around the Christmas Tree at the airfield.
You’ll see from the photos included with this short story just how much Steve can squeeze into his aircraft.
44 planes were involved in this year’s event including older planes like dated Tiger Moths,
Following this event the toys are all loaded up and delivered to Anglicare in Gawler and then distributed to families whose children need to feel the spirit of Christmas....Editors Note.

To The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley
Thank you for supporting the Australian Rotary Health Wine Offer and I hope you enjoy the wines.

The benefit to you the purchaser is reduced price.

The benefit to Australian Rotary Health is that we will receive $30 per dozen donation on all orders from the merchant which will be on-sent to ARH.   And thanks to our many volunteers, along with interest earned from our investments, we can give 100% of our donations to our research programs

What does Australian Rotary Health do?

In a nutshell, Australian Rotary Health uses donated funds to support research into topics that will provide benefits to Australians.

Sadly, 1 in 5 Australians will suffer 1 form of mental Health issue in any year.   Australian Rotary Health has been a leader in the bringing of this subject to the fore.

Our primary focus since 2000 has been Mental Illness Research and since 2012 the focus has been narrowed to the Mental Health of Young Australians.

We are grateful of your support.

Regards
